ALAS-G (Association of Latin-American Students in Groningen) was founded in 2011 in a response to the increasing amount of Latin-American students that come to study in Groningen. The aim of the organization is to provide support to newly incoming Latin-American students in Groningen when it comes to finding their way around town and at University, and to help with housing, legal advice and... to find friends!
The Latin-American community in Groningen consists of people from all over the continent, from Mexico to Argentina, from Ecuador to Brasil. Also, ALAS attracts people from all around the world that have an interest in Latin American culture, the Spanish or Portuguese language, or just happen to have latino friends! ALAS-G is open to all students in Groningen and welcomes guests both from within and outside the university.
The majority of the activities are of social character: ALAS organizes dinner nights, movie nights, and city trips. Also, ALAS organizes lectures on a broad variety of topics. ALAS works together with other international student organizations to organize cultural events, city trips and sport events!
ALAS-members find their way to and from activities and have little to no commmitments to make, since the organization
does not charge a membership-fee. In turn, we charge a little contribution for each activity. When you first enter an
ALAS-activity, you register with one of the board members or online. This is so we can show the University of Groningen
the support that we have amongst the students of Groningen. Feel free to join in whenever you want, it is up to you how
involved you become. Interested in taking an active role in ALAS? Ask for available board functions and committees!
